Depart from the hotel

On a day with good weather, we urge you to challenge the Imperial Palace Run. First familiarize yourself with the running times and course using the map on this page before you depart from the hotel!

While jogging lightly to warm up, go across the Kudanshita Intersection and head for Kita-no-Maru Park.

Tayasu-mon Gate

You will arrive at the entrance of the park, "Tayasu-mon Gate". With the Nippon Budokan Hall on your left, head for the open area in the park.

After reaching the open area, you can do your stretching while enjoying in the park’s scenery. When you have finished warming up, make sure the shoelaces on your running shoes are tight and then move to the starting point for your run.

Starting Point (Inui-mon Gate)

After you go through the Kita-no-Maru Park, we recommend making the area on the other side of the pedestrian crossing under the Tokyo Metropolitan Expressway your starting point. Recheck your course and set your target time at this point before finally starting!

Hanzo-mon Gate

Turn left at the Chidori-ga-Fuchi Intersection and proceed along the Uchibori-dori (Inner Moat) Road. When you go beyond Hanzo-mon Gate, you can enjoy the moat and its surrounding scenery which will come into view.

Sakurada-mon Gate

One of the funs of the Imperial Palace Run is entering Kokyo Gaien (Outer Gardens of the Imperial Palace) from the historical Sakurada-mon Gate.

Kokyo Gaien National Garden

From the point where you can see the groves of pine trees at Kokyo Gaien the outer walls of the Imperial Palace, a wide, level road stretches out. This is the perfect spot for you to pick up your jogging pace.

Wadakura Fountain Park

With your eye on Tokyo Station and Wadakura Fountain Park on your right, a striking contrast between the greens and the metropolitan scenery will appear into view.

Ote Moat

Along the Ote Moat, where you can see the Meteorological Agency, go under the swaying willow trees. This is also one of the must-see sights that you can enjoy with the Imperial Palace Run.

Hirakawa-mon Gate

Flowering in the vicinity of the Hirakawamon Intersection, you will be able to see several types of double-flower cherry trees. Depending on the season, you may be able to enjoy a fabulous view of the double cherry blossoms as you jog along.
Once you have made it this far, the Hotel Grand Palace is only a short way away. Cross over the Takebashi Intersection and return to the Kudanshita Intersection along the Shimizu Moat.

You have now made it back to the main entrance of the Hotel Grand Palace. Be sure to do some stretching to ensure your body doesn’t cool down too quickly. Once you have loosened up, you can get your nourishment for the day by having breakfast at the hotel.
